Job Description:
Our Red Hat global support services (GSS)
team is seeking an experienced Software Maintenance Engineer. This team of
technical support engineers is dedicated to resolving the issues of our
enterprise customers quickly and effectively. In this role, you'll maintain
close working relationships with our customer's top developers and architects
and assist our frontline support engineers with the most complex and
challenging issues. This is an opportunity for you to collaborate with our
brightest technical account managers and development engineers in a fast-paced
environment.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Resolve complex customer problems
pertaining to virtualization technologies, especially in the areas of Kernel
Virtual Machine (KVM), Xen, libvirt, virsh, etc.
2. Analyze upstream development against current customer reported defects and develop patches to resolve the issue
3. Use available tools to investigate and troubleshoot technical issues
4.Record customer interactions to include investigation, troubleshooting, and the resolution of issues
5. Work closely with Red Hat's production support engineers, technical account managers and development engineering
6. Demonstrate considerable judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
7. Manage workload to ensure that all customer issues are timely handled and driven to resolution
8. Assist in the development of comprehensive and reusable self-service solutions for future incidents

Required skills:
1. 5+ years of experience as a support,
sustaining, or development engineer or other directly related experience in an
enterprise environment
2. Linux operating system installation, configuration, upgrades, and
maintenance experience
3. Solid understanding of storage technologies, familiarity with Red Hat Storage is a plus
4. Upstream involvement in open-source projects, such as patches submitted for upstream inclusion a plus, especially on GlusterFS or a storage related project
5. Thorough understanding of hardware and computer architecture
6. High-level development experience with C, C++, Python and familiarity with writing patches
7. Experience writing scripts using Bash, Python, or Perl to troubleshoot
and correct issues
8. Upstream involvement in open-source projects, such as patches submitted for upstream inclusion, is a plus, especially on GlusterFS or a storage related project
9. Excellent troubleshooting skills
10. Commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat customers
11. Bachleor's in computer science or a technical discipline, or equivalent work experience
